It’s officially summer, and that means late nights out enjoying the warm weather plus the extra hours of sunshine. If your plans are anything like mine, half the time they’re spontaneous or get introduced right after work when you have little time to prepare. If you find yourself in that situation, here’s a quick guide on how to prep in a flash (or get ready on-to-go!).
Cream Multisticks
The first step is to add some radiance and color to the face using cream multi-sticks – my go-to makeup essential in the summer. The cream texture adds color while keeping the skin dewy and fresh looking, plus they’re super versatile. Apply a little to the cheeks, temples, lips, and even the eye crease, blend with your fingers, and you’re all set. Or, pop it in your purse or clutch if you’re in a hurry, and apply on-to-go. Shown above is one of my favorite multisticks for adding natural-looking color along with a touch shimmer – the Argan Color Stick from Josie Maran.
Shimmery Shadows
Again for the eyes, a touch of sheen and shimmer always looks stunning for summer evening looks. Cream-based shadows tend to work best for the eyes (just as much as the cheeks) when you’re in a hurry since applying and blending can easily be done with your fingers. Plus they provide more of a natural, dewy sheen compared to powders.
Colourpop makes some of my favorite long-lasting shimmery cream-based eyeshadows. They pack so much punch that one shade applied on the lid and crease is enough to amp up your look. Plus, they come in individual containers that you can pop in your clutch if you don’t have time to go home to refresh your makeup before going out. Comfy Dresses & Playsuits
For a quick outfit change, grab a comfortable summer dress or romper – something that you can slip on in a few seconds. Some of my personal favorites come from Charming Charlie (which I featured a haul of here on my blog a few weeks back). They’re super affordable too, so you can easy stock up!
If it’s on the chillier side, layer with a light jacket – denim jackets and bombers are my favorites as they pair well with everything. Finish with some sandals (or cute sneaks if a lot of walking is involved), a handbag/clutch, and a few pieces of jewelry, like layered chokers for an edgy look, or chunky natural stone bracelets and pendants for more boho vibes. Shimmery Body Lotion
Now that we have the outfit on, it’s time to amp up the glow wherever your skin is showing – the shoulders, legs, decolletage – any place you want to add a healthy sheen. Grab a moisturizer and mix in a few drops of shimmery dry oil for soft, radiant skin. Or, try a shimmery moisturizer which already combines the two steps into one, like my favorite – Josie Maran’s Whipped Argan Oil Illuminizing Body Butter, shown above.
Summer Scents
Whether you prefer fruity, floral, aquatic, or woodsy, now is the time to spritz your favorite, confidence-boosting scent on your pulse points. Experiment with different application spots, like the back of the knees, wrists, inner arms, and even your hair, but go light (1-2 spritzes) since heat and humidity tend to enhance the strength and sillage of a scent. If you have them in a rollerball, smaller spray bottle, or better yet, a solid perfume stick, throw it inside your clutch for on-to-go applications.
Two of my personal favorites that I’m always throwing into my bag include Viktor & Rolf’s Flowerbomb, a sexy, rich floral scent, and Issey Miyake’s L’Eau d’Issey, a light, green floral.
Natural Deodorant
The last step is to apply deodorant to stay fresh, cool, and comfortable all evening long. One of my favorites is Tom’s of Maine® Long Lasting Deodorant. It’s aluminum-free, and instead uses the botanical ingredient hops which inhibits the growth of odor-causing bacteria for 24 hours. Their deodorant is also free of artificial colors, fragrances, and preservatives, cruelty-free, and their packaging is eco-friendly and recyclable through TerraCycle. My favorite scent is Wild Lavender, but they also have Apricot, Lemongrass, and an unscented version.
