Most days, I’m a fitted tee and jeans kinda-gal. My favorite colors – black and white. You’ll rarely find me wearing a dress or anything ‘ultra-feminine’ – color, pattern, or style-wise. But every once in a while, I like to step out of my comfort zone and try something new, bold, and even a little fun. Which brings me to Shabby Apple.
Shabby Apple Retro-Chic Finds
Shabby Apple recently contacted me to see if I’d be interested in reviewing something from their collection. To be honest, I was hesitant at first, seeing that a large majority of their clothing features dressier styles and cuts, often complemented with tulle, polka dots, or colorful patterns (while I happen to be a lover of casual basics). However, after digging a bit deeper, I came across several modern, fitted pieces that still had a fun, vintage feel. Here are a few of my favs!
Due to their somewhat limited supply on the swimsuits (looks like their suits are pretty popular around this time of year – people are grabbing them up like crazy), I ended up going for one of Shabby Apple’s maxi skirts – the Mosaic Maxi Skirt (the one of the right above). It features a beautiful multi-colored, mosaic-like pattern.
Shabby Apple Review
When it arrived, I was crossing my fingers hoping that I got the right size – and magically, I did. It fits perfectly around the waist (sits pretty high-waisted, just covering my belly button), slightly snug around the curve of the hips, and then flows straight down to the floor. The length couldn’t have been better – I’m around 5’7″ and have fairly long legs, and the bottom of the skirt just barely brushes the floor – it’s the perfect length.
(Sizing note: After coming across a few other bloggers’ Shabby Apple reviews, it seems that their dresses and skirts do run long. So if you’re taller and struggle with finding dresses/skirts with the right lengths – you’re in luck with these guys. Otherwise, if you’re on the petite side, just be aware that you may need to get your dress or skirt hemmed to get the right fit.)
From the vibrant pattern to the extra lining underneath, everything about this Shabby Apple skirt looks and feels well-constructed, and excellent quality. Wearability-wise, I love how the skirt moves with you as you walk. Even with the two layers, the skirt feels lightweight and breezy – perfect for a warm Summer day, but also a cooler Summer night to stop the chill. It looks great paired with a basic tee or tank tucked in to create a curve-hugging, feminine silhouette that brings out the bohemian, gypsy side of me. 😉
Overall, if you’re a lover of vintage style, I recommend giving Shabby Apple a try. Like what you see? Be sure to enter my giveaway below for a chance to win a gift card to their shop!
