The Cozy Edit: My Fall Wardrobe Essentials

Pilcro and Letterpress skinny ankle jeans - Cozy Fall Wardrobe Essentials

Now that the weather is cooling down, I’ve started to transition away from what I wish I could wear all year long – comfy jean shorts, breezy tanks, and flip flops.  Don’t get me wrong, I love wearing high-heeled boots and structured jackets come fall, but some days my main objective is just to feel cozy and put on something effortless, and that’s where these four cool-weather essentials come in…

1. Chunky knit sweaters. There’s nothing like throwing on a big chunky knit sweater when the weather is chilly.  The softer, the better.  This burgundy one I’m wearing here is a fairly recent addition to my fall wardrobe (I have to thank my stylist Diane for adding it to my October DailyLook Elite subscription box!).  It’s amazingly comfortable and warm, yet breathable thanks to the waffle knit stitching. I’m on the lookout for some styles with turtlenecks next (there’s something especially cozy about keeping your neck all covered up and warm.)  If this one from H&M ever goes back in stock in my size, I’m placing an order pronto!

2. Soft stretch jeans.  Even better if they have a little wiggle room in them – I’ll sometimes even go a size up for a looser, more comfortable fit.  Add a high waist and cropped ankle, and they’re equally as stylish.  Some of my most favorite pairs are from 7 For All Mankind, Pilcro and the Letterpress (the ones I’m wearing here), and Joe’s Jeans – they have such flattering fits, and a majority are made out of very soft yet durable fabrics that really hold their shape.  I’ve been finding some amazing deals on them over at Nordstrom Rack, and have also purchased a few pairs secondhand (but in practically brand new condition) over at ThredUP for around $30 a piece!

3. Comfy sneaks. I’ve been on the hunt for a comfortable yet cute pair of sneakers for what seems like ages now.  The problem is, I have rather large feet so I struggle to find ones that don’t make them look like clown feet sticking out from nice tapered skinny jeans – not a good look.  Fortunately, during my last rather spontaneous trip to DSW, I caught a glimpse of the Adidas NEO Courtset sneaks, tried them on, and fell in love.  Not only are they super comfortable – much more comfortable than my Vans actually – they’re not at all big and bulky, and actually manage to make my feet smaller – if that’s even possible!  Finally I have some sneakers that pair perfectly with ankle pants and skinny jeans!  I’m already planning to stock up on more colors – the blush ones are next on my list…

4. Soft tees & tanks. Although I dig a nice crisp button-up, my go-to tops most days are basic tees and tanks.  Even in the fall and winter, I tend to thrown them on first, then layer ’em up with sweaters, flannels, and jackets.  The main place I shop to stock up is Forever 21.  Their basics are priced super cheap – for example, their classic camis are $1.90 and their v-neck tees are around $4-12.  Plus, all of the tanks I own, and a good majority of the tees (with the exception of a few that got holes after a heavy wash) have held up surprisingly well, with some lasting me 3-4 years now.  (If you’re on a budget, I highly recommend checking out their Basics Shop!)
