Easy Contouring & Highlighting with The Essentials by Burberry

Burberry Fresh Glow Highlighting Luminous Pen, Lip Colour Contour, Face Contour Review

Burberry recently launched ‘The Essentials’ collection, which includes five easy-to-use, multi-tasking formulas designed to create the look of glowing skin, contoured cheeks, and fuller lips.  I reviewed their Fresh Glow Luminous Fluid Bases a while ago, i.e. the two primers in the collection that provide a smooth, glowing base.  Today, we’re moving on to the highlighting and contouring pens – all of which are designed to add further definition to the face, while maintaining a natural, seamless look.

‘Burberry is known for its signature nudes and natural, glowing skin. This is an edit of must-have products that everyone can use to enhance their features and achieve a flawless Burberry glow.’ – Wendy Rowe, Burberry Make-Up Artistic Consultant’

Burberry Face Contour

Burberry’s Face Contour pen brings absolute ease to the whole sculpting/contouring process.  The domed-tipped pen allows you to draw precious lines under the cheekbones and jawline, and along the nose.  You can also use it in the eye crease to create a more sculpted eye look.  The application is as easy as drawing a few strokes on the skin, and then blending in with your fingertips.  The creamy, lightweight formula glides on smoothly without dragging, and blends in to create a seamless finish.

The Face Contour pen comes in two shades: Medium No.01 for light-to-medium complexions and Dark No. 02 for medium-to-dark tones.  I used Medium No.01 in the photos below.  It’s a fairly neutral-toned brown, and on my light-medium neutral-toned skin it creates a subtle, natural-looking shadow without any noticeable orange-y/warm undertones.

Burberry Fresh Glow Highlighting Luminous Pen

Burberry’s Fresh Glow Highlighting Luminous Pen is designed to add radiance to any area of the face you want to highlight – from the center of the forehead, along the bridge of the nose, chin, tops of cheeks, and the collarbone.  Similar to the Face Contour pen, the formula is creamy-smooth, and glides on and blends out effortlessly.  You can wear it on bare skin, or over liquid or cream foundation.

The Fresh Glow Highlighting Luminous Pen comes in one shade – Nude Radiance No.01 – which is a light champagne that’s designed to suit every skin tone.  Most of the ‘radiance’ that it produces comes from a pretty heavy dose of pale pink and white gold micro-shimmer.  However, from a normal, conversational distance away, it looks natural and glowy, rather than super shimmery.  You can also really play around with the intensity – use one swipe and gently blend with your fingertips for a subtle glow.  For a more noticeable, almost strobe-like highlight, layer this up 3-4x and tap to blend (rubbing tends to cause it to loose some of its vibrancy).

Burberry Lip Colour Contour

I’ve seen people use a highlight on the cupid’s bow, but never before did the thought cross my mind to do the opposite – add a shadow around the lip lines to make them appear fuller.  That’s exactly what the Burberry Lip Colour Contours are created to do.  They come in a handy pen form just like the face highlighting and contour pens, and although it’s bigger than your average lip pencil, it’s the perfect size for sculpting the lips.  Simply line the outer edges of your lips, then blend the creamy, lightweight formula with your fingertips to add a soft, natural-looking shadow and a fuller appearance.  You can also use this as a primer – the formula will help smooth, soften, and moisturize the lips.  Add your favorite lipstick over top, or simply wear the color on its own for a natural nude lip look.

The Burberry Lip Colour Contours come in 4 shades.  The one I’m using here is the third darkest in the collection – Medium No.03.  It’s a neutral rosy brown that’s just a tad darker than my natural look color.  It manages to create a natural-looking shadow that really does make my lips (especially the lower one) look fuller.  If you’re not a fan of using lip liners, but still want to subtly define and enhance the shape of your lips, I’d absolutely recommend trying these out!

In the after photo above, I applied the Burberry Face Contour (Medium No.01) under my cheekbones, and the Fresh Glow Highlighting Luminous Pen (Nude Radiance No.01) on the tops of my cheekbones and in the inner corner of my eyes.  I also lined and filled in my lips with the Lip Colour Contour (Medium No.03).

Overall, as a lover of natural, minimal, no-fuss makeup looks, I’m going crazy for these Burberry highlighting and contouring pens.  They’re easy to use, mistake-proof, and take seconds to apply.  The final result – even on the days when I’m in a rush – always looks natural, seamless, and effortless.
