Review | Meow Meow Tweet Face Oil, Exfoliant & Toner

meow meow tweet skincare

Today I’m going to be talking about my latest clean beauty find – Meow Meow Tweet (cute name, right?!).  MMT is a small-batch skin care company that offers all the face and body essentials – from their gentle cleansers, oils, and scrubs, to their creamy cocoa body lotions and potions.

What first caught my eye was their super cute and unique packaging, only to later discover all the amazing stuff inside: all-natural, organic, vegan, and absolutely skin-loving ingredients!  According to their website, all of their products are made with ‘organic, unrefined plant oils and butters, steam-distilled and cold-pressed essential oils, and organic and wild-crafted botanicals’.

Today, I’m reviewing three minis from their skincare range that they sent for me to sample, including their Face Toner, Face Exfoliant, and Face Oil.  With the exception of the cleanser, this includes all the products featured in their recommended face regime for normal/combo/oily skintypes:

Normal/ Combo/ Oily-
The Whole Shebang (Cleanser, Exfoliant, Face Oil, Toner)
AM: rinse face with lukewarm water (10 splashes), massaging in an upward motion, pat dry. Spray liberally with toner. While face is still wet, apply face oil. (Notice you don’t wash with cleanser here).
PM: Wash with cleanser, pat dry and spray liberally with toner. While face is still wet, apply 2 to 3 drops of face oil. Exfoliate 2 to 3 times per week.

These products are made to work in conjunction for maximum benefits, so I tried out the three together for three weeks – here’s my review!

“As makers and purveyors, we hope to encourage small changes in the lives of our customers through the physical, emotional and ecological healthfulness of completely natural goods for the face and body.” – MMT

meow meow tweet face exfoliant

Meow Meow Tweet Face Exfoliant Review

First up, Meow Meow Tweet’s Face Exfoliant.  This gentle, earthy facial scrub helps to renew and awaken skin. Powered by four simple ingredients, it works to slough off dead skin cells, lift impurities and stimulate circulation, leaving skin smooth, fresh, and radiant.

To use the Face Exfoliant, I’ll shake a small amount (about the size of a nickel) into the palm of my hand, and then slowly add water until it forms a thin paste. Then I’ll gently massage it over my face for about 30 seconds. The oats and black walnut feel super soft and gentle on the skin, making it great for everyday, light exfoliation (especially if you have sensitive skin).

This paste can also be left on the skin and used as a detoxifying mask, so I’ll typically let it sit an extra minute on my skin before rinsing off.  I love that it doesn’t leave my skin feeling parched or dry afterwards – just balanced and smooth!

Ingredients: *avena sativa (oats), juglans nigra (black walnut) hull, *matricaria chamomilla (chamomile) flowers, ascophyllum nodosum (kelp) *certified organic ingredient

meow meow tweet face toner

Meow Meow Tweet Face Toner Review

Next step is toning using Meow Meow Tweet’s Face Toner, a refreshing multi-tasker.  It’s formulated with wild harvested witch hazel and apple cider vinegar, and also packed with antioxidants and nutrients to balance, tone, and refresh.

As recommended, I’ll spray a light misting (4-5 sprays) over my entire face and neck after cleansing, and then massage in their face oil shortly after.  (According to Meow Meow Tweet, these two products work collaboratively to deliver all the nutrients deeper into the pores.)

I particularly love the toner’s scent. The floral notes like rose, lavender, and geranium add a calming effect, and surprisingly help mask the otherwise strong odor of the apple cider vinegar.

Another great use for this is as a setting spray after foundation.  I personally like to use this over my mineral foundation to rehydrate and refresh.  And speaking of versatility, this can also be used on the scalp to help relieve dryness and dandruff.

Ingredients: hammamelis virginiana (wild harvested witch hazel) distillate, aqua (water), *rosa damascena (rose) hydrosol, *vegetable glycerin, *acetic acid (apple cider vinegar), *lavendula angustofolia (lavender), *pelargonium graveolens (geranium), *cymbopogon martini (palmarosa), *helichrysum italicum (immortelle) essential oils         *certified organic ingredient

Meow Meow Tweet Face Oil Review

And finally, it’s time to moisturize!  Meow Meow Tweet’s Face Oil is a non-greasy daily face oil that works to nourish, heal, and brighten skin.  Through an aromatic blend of organic plant oils and essences, this oil helps balance skin and even out oil production (and has been working particularly well for my combo skin by reducing the oilies in my T-zone.)

What I’ll do is apply 3 drops to cover my face and neck after exfoliating and toning using the products above, as recommended (applying the toner first really helps the oil to spread over the skin).  For an oil, it absorbs pretty quickly (though in the mornings, I always make sure to wait a good 5-10 minutes before applying any powder/mineral makeup).  The scent is so pleasant and earthy (thanks to the vetiver and patchouli essential oils) which makes it a relaxing and calming spa-like treat in the evenings!

Similar to the toner, the Face Oil can also be used on the scalp, and even on the ends of your hair (or even all throughout!) to help lock in moisture.

Ingredients: *cannabis sativa (hempseed) oil, *simmondsia chinensis (jojoba) oil, *sesamum indicum (sesame) oil, *juniperus communis (juniper) essential oil, *pogostemon cablin (patchouli) essential oil, *vetiveria zizanoides (vetiver) essential oil, *daucus carota (carrot seed) essential oil         *certified organic ingredient

Final Thoughts

Over the course of three weeks, this particular combination of skincare products really helped to smooth, soften, and most amazingly, balance my skin.  The exfoliator was super gentle and non-drying, the toner was balancing, and the facial oil was the perfect final touch that kept my skin hydrated while minimizing oilies.  (After a full night’s beauty sleep, I actually noticed less oil production than usual.  Meanwhile, my drier areas completely disappeared around my nose and cheeks!)

Overall, the earthy scents and natural formulas of MMT’s skincare products are a real treat for both the senses and the skin.  I would absolutely recommend trying out Meow Meow Tweet‘s products if you’re looking to make the switch to a cleaner, more natural skincare routine.  They offer samples sizes of almost all their products (plus pre-made sample kits), so you can experiment a bit like I did and see what works for you.
