A Little Lush Haul for Winter

lush haul and review black pearl, sleepy, and energizer

If you follow my blog, you may have caught my last post where I cooked up a few homemade bath bombs (talk about a money saver!).  I ended up making enough for a full month of baths, with ingredients left over to make loads more over the course of the winter.

Even still, I found myself exploring Lush’s store, looking for something new to try out – this time for the shower.  I ended up grabbing two of their body cleansers (a shower jelly, and a shower gel), along with a body lotion.  The Refresher shower jelly I imagined would be the perfect morning cleanser, while Black Pearl shower gel + the Sleep body lotion would make the perfect evening combo.  After trying everything out, here are my thoughts on everything I picked up.

Lush Refresher Shower Jelly

First up – the Refresher.  Because I love lemony, citrusy scents, I just couldn’t pass this up!  It contains fresh organic lemon infusion, lemon oil and organic lemon myrtle, which translates to a rather simple, straight-forward, and strong citrusy scent.  I personally find it to be incredibly refreshing and energizing, and even a little nostalgic (it smells just like one of my favorite childhood candies – Lemon Pez!).

This little jiggly jelly can be used straight out of its container, or cut into smaller chunks.  It lathers up extremely well when it comes in contact with water, and rinses off with no residue, leaving the skin feeling squeaky clean without any dryness.

Lush Black Pearl Shower Gel

For evening baths, I wanted something a bit more relaxing, so I went for the Black Pearl shower gel.  While it does contain more calming notes like lavender and chamomile, for me, the scent as a whole comes across as a somewhat messy mix of herbal, earthy, and floral notes.  Unlike the Refresher, the scent also doesn’t linger on my skin after showering, nor does it leave my skin feeling any softer than usual.  (I once used this on one side of my body and didn’t notice a difference after toweling off.)

The formula itself looks very unique, with a charcoal-like color and fine shimmer, which gives it an almost metallic appearance.  It lathers amazingly well too, and I find myself needing the smallest amount to cover my whole body.  In the end though, I turned to Lush for their scented products, and in that area, for me this shower gel falls short. I’ll enjoy it while it lasts, but will not be re-purchasing.

Lush Sleepy Body Lotion

And I saved the best for last – Lush’s Sleepy body lotion!  This has got to be one of the most amazing scented body lotions I’ve ever tried.  Between the calming lavender and sweet tonka scents, it makes for a warm and comforting little concoction that I look forward to applying every evening.  The scent actually lingers on my skin too, for at least a good 20-30 minutes, leaving me sniffing my hands and arms constantly.

The little discovery definitely made up for my failed search for the Twilight-scented shower gel (which appears to be seasonal and never available when I’m looking for it!).  Some people say Sleepy’s scent is actually similar to Twilight’s, though I find it to be a lot warmer and sweeter, and almost gingerbread-like, which I love!

Between the oatmeal infusion, almond oil, jojoba oil, and organic cocoa butter, the Sleepy body lotion also leaves my skin feeling soft and hydrated.  It can feel slightly greasy, however, that goes away after a few minutes once it has all absorbed.  All-in-all, I’m glad I went for the full-size, and while I expect this will last me through the winter, I already know I’ll be re-purchasing this as soon as it gets close to running out!
