Holiday Survival Guide | 7 Beauty Hacks & Tips

holiday beauty hacks

The holiday season is upon us, and that means long parties, big dinners, and lots of eating, drinking, chatting, dancing, and just plain having fun!  But amidst all the merriness, how are us girls supposed to stay looking and feeling our best, all throughout the evening?  That’s where a few of my favorite beauty hacks come in – here are 7 that are sure to help you feel confident, beautiful, and comfortable while you enjoy the holidays with your friends and family.

Dramatic Lashes

For a dramatic eye look that lasts, always start with a lash primer (believe me, it makes all the difference!).  A primer not only helps condition and hydrate lashes, it also amplifies your mascara, reduces flaking, and increases its longevity.  Next, apply a few swipes of mascara using this little trick: hold the wand tight to the base of your lashes and then blink into it 1-2 times.  This will press the lashes deep into the base of the brush (where most of the lash formula sits), and quickly and evenly build up intensity.

Lasting Lip Color

For a lip look that lasts, start by applying a base layer using lip stain – one that matches your lipstick.  This will serve as a sort of ‘back-up’ layer for your lipstick to gradually fade into.  Then, simply fill them in with a matte lipstick.  The reason to go with matte is because its formula isn’t as tacky as other lipstick finishes, meaning it’s less prone to ‘attach’ itself onto glasses, food, etc.  In other words, it ends up lasting much longer!

Quick Cheeks

For flushed cheeks in a flash, grab your favorite cream lipstick and apply it to the apples of your cheeks, then blend it out with your fingers.  (You’ll be surprised how easy it is to work with!)  In the end, you get the same look as a cream blush, only you now have one less item to add to your makeup bag for touch-ups!

Glowing Skin

For glowing, radiant skin, mix a few drops of your favorite liquid/cream highlighter into your foundation.  This will add a subtle, all-over shimmer.  Add more drops to build up intensity for a more noticeable ethereal glow.  If you’re looking for a bronzed glow, add a few drops of a liquid bronzer to your foundation to give the illusion that you’ve just been away on a beach vacay.

Static-Free Hair

To tame fly-aways and crazy static from those cute winter hats or dry winter air, lightly run a dryer sheet over your hair.  You can even slip one into your purse for touch-ups throughout the evening (they’re virtually weightless!).

Stay Dry

To stay dry and fresh as the night goes on, opt for a lasting deodorant, like Dove Dry Spray Antiperspirant.  It goes on instantly dry with no wait time, and provides 48 hours of odor and wetness protection – enough to last all throughout those dinners, parties, and then some!  At the same time, it contains ¼ moisturizers to soothe and care for your skin – keeping you comfy and dry until the crack of dawn.

Ditch the Heels

Sure, those four inch heels can absolutely make your outfit, but by the end of the night, your feet are probably begging you to take them off.  That’s where foldable ballet flats come in – they’re lightweight, fit easily into your purse, and can be worn in place of your heels as soon as your feet start demanding a break!

Great post Jessica! I love the tip about using a lip stain before applying liner or lipstick! I have never thought of that. I love to always keep chapstick and a neutral lip color with me in case I ever need it.

Some great hacks! I love having flat shoes on by the end of the night when my feet can’t take any more! I’m eager to try the mascara hack next time I apply it.
