The Body Shop Honey Bronze Drops of Sun Holiday Glow Creator review

Forget cream and powder bronzers, and gradual self-tanners – the The Body Shop’s Honey Bronze Drops of Sun is my latest obsession when it comes to adding a natural glow to my skin all year round.

The Body Shop Honey Bronze Drops of Sun Holiday Glow Creator Review

The Body Shop Honey Bronze Drops of Sun works as a instant bronzer, just by adding 1 drop to your moisturizer or foundation.  It comes in a gel-like, moisturizing texture that settles to a transparent matte finish with no shimmer, adding a natural glow to your skin.  Formulated with Community Trade Honey and Vitamin E, it even works double-time to nourish and condition the skin.

How to Use

The Honey Bronze Drops of Sun can be added to your moisturizer for a summer glow, or to your foundation to deepen its color.  Simply apply your moisturizer or foundation to the back of your hand, add in 1 drops (or more if needed), then mix together and apply.  To use as a contour, add 2+ drops to your foundation to darken the shade, then apply under cheekbones, temples, etc.

The Body Shop’s Honey Bronze Drops of Sun comes in a thick, gel-like formula that has the slightest scent of honey.  Straight out of the bottle, it can look a little bit intimating, especially if you have lighter skin. But as soon as you mix it in with another product (moisturizer, foundation, or even a primer), it really starts to tone down.

One drop of the Honey Bronze Drops of Sun applied on its own

My favorite way to use The Body Shop Honey Bronze Drops of Sun is mixed in with my morning moisturizer.  On my light-medium skin, 1-2 drops applied this way adds the slightest touch of bronze, creating a very natural sun-kissed look.  Anymore than that, the bronzed effect becomes a lot more noticeable – like I’d just spent a day out in the sun and gotten a natural tan.

For my before and after below, I ended up using probably the max I’d ever use – 4-5 drops. (1-2 drops didn’t show up well on camera – it was just too subtle of a difference).  What I did was mix the drops into a clear face primer (the e.l.f Mineral Primer), and then I blended it into my skin with a foundation brush (RT’s Expert Face Brush).  As you can see from the before and after, not only did the drops add a nice bronzed/tanned look to my skin, they also helped even out my skintone a bit too.

You’d think the honey would make these drops difficult to work with, but they are surprisingly easy to spread and blend in for seamless, streak-free coverage, especially when mixed in with another cream/liquid product. The formula does leave the skin feeling a bit sticky after the initial blending stage, but after a few minutes, it dries down to a completely matte finish.  After that, the color lasts all day, and only comes off when you expose it to water (so avoid getting your face wet or else it will create little droplets of bronze!).
