You may have caught this beauty pick of mine in my last post. Well, after reaching for the Bobbi Brown Eye Opening Mascara everyday for about a month now, I thought it warranted a full review. I’m always experimenting with new mascaras, and this one beats every one out of the water, including my previous two favorites – the Tarte Gifted mascara and the Josie Maran Argan Oil mascara. Keep reading to find out why (or just scroll down to see the before and after photos)!
Bobbi Brown Eye Opening Mascara
What Does It Do?
The Bobbi Brown Eye Opening Mascara offers ‘high-drama volume and high-impact curl’ in just a few quick strokes. It comes with a jumbo brush that touches on almost every lash from top to bottom in just a few strokes. The mascara brush separates the lashes, while pushing them up and out, creating a gorgeous curl that stays put all day. It comes in one color – a rich, carbon-black – which further thickens and intensifies the lashes for a lot of drama.
My Bobbi Brown Eye Opening Mascara Review
The wand – The jumbo wand that comes with the Bobbi Brown Eye Opening Mascara is amazing. It really gets in there and coats the lashes in just a few strokes. Three to five coats gets you extra lift, length, and separation. If you go beyond that, and/or use a combination of ‘wiggles’ and ‘spins’ to apply it, you’ll get amazingly thick lashes and even more curl.
How I apply it – For a dramatic look, I’ll use my ‘wiggle and spin’ method: 1) Press the lash brush to the lash line, then sweep the brush up while spinning the brush. This will help distribute more of the formula on the lashes. 2) As you’re spinning the wand, wiggle it back and forth between the lashes for even more intense volume.
For a more conservative look, I’ll typically do 6-8 coats using quick, basic strokes. Another thing I like to do is tilt the brush and use the tip to fill in my lash line (works as an eyeliner replacement this way too!).
Something to watch out for – The one thing to watch out for when applying this mascara is that you want to apply all your coats fairly quickly and all at once. If you go to apply more coats after the first coat has dried and set itself, you’re going to experience a lot of clumping. If you follow that ‘rule’ and build up your lashes to your desired intensity right away (which is surprisingly easy to do using the giant brush), you’ll be all set!
Removal process – When it came time to remove it at the end of the day, I figured it might be a little bit of a hassle, but no, it washed off easily with some warm water and a little bit of cleanser.
Why I love it – Overall, between the jumbo brush and the rich formula, this mascara really thickens and adds volume like I’ve never seen before. Despite the intense amount of volume you get, the formula doesn’t weigh down the lashes. It’s quite the opposite actually – it lifts the lashes, and then holds the curl all day long.
