I don’t usually get too excited when I receive hair care products in my Birchbox, mostly because I’m a minimalist when it comes to haircare. My routine usually involves shampoo, conditioner, and then some sort of leave-in product. After which, I just let my hair air-dry. As a result, most of the mousses, gels, and sprays that I get in my subscription boxes sadly sit unused in my bathroom…
Luckily, last month’s Birchbox included a detangling leave-in hair product – something that I could definitely get some use out of. I could see it fitting into anyone’s haircare routine really, as the first product to apply straight out of the shower. It’s called the Beauty Protector Protect and Detangle, and is quite the multi-tasker! So let’s first go over the details of what this product does, and then we’ll get into my Beauty Protector Protect & Detangle review.
Beauty Protector Protect & Detangle
What it Does
The Beauty Protector Protect & Detangle is a leave-in hair detangler spray. It works by sealing the hair cuticle for smoother, more moisturized hair. This also helps to minimize frizz and add shine. The Beauty Protector Protect & Detangle provides UV ray and heat protection, and safeguards color. It has a weightless, non-greasy formula that’s 100% vegan, paraben- and sulfate-free, and suitable for all hair types.
How to Use
To apply the Beauty Protector Protect & Detangle, just go about your usual hair cleansing and conditioning routine. Once you’re all done, towel dry your hair. The directions say to then hold the bottle four to six inches away from your scalp, spray a few times, then comb the product through your hair to evenly distribute it.
(I don’t necessary follow these instructions. I tend to spray way more times than what’s recommended, just to ensure I get all-over coverage. What’s nice though, is that no matter how much you apply, the formula won’t weigh down your hair.)
Here’s a full list of the Beauty Protector Protect & Detangle ingredients (as listed on Birchbox’s website):
Water/Aqua/Eau, SD Alcohol 40 (Alcohol Denat), Behentrimonium Methosulfate, Cetrimonium Chloride, Fragrance/Parfum, Cetearyl Alcohol, Amodimethicone, Cyclomethicone, Hydrolyzed Wheat Protein, Panthenol, Trideceth 12, Sodium Benzoate, Methylisothiazolinone, Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone, Butylphenyl Methylpropional, Courmarin, Hexyl Cinnamal, Linalool, Limonene
So now that we know what this product is supposed to do for your hair, let’s continue onto my Beauty Protector Protect & Detangle review.
Beauty Protector Protect & Detangle Review
At first spray, I was invited in by Beauty Protector Protect & Detangle’s warm, yummy scent. I have to say, it’s one of the best smelling hair products I’ve tried to date! And the best part is, the scent stays with you all day, yet its light enough that only you and the people very close to you will notice it (I’m talking hugs & kisses close).
Initially, the product’s detangling properties were really all I was expecting, and in that respect, it did it’s job quite well. It made my hair much easier to comb out after showering. In addition to this product’s detangling benefits, it offers even more benefits for your hair (and I’m not just talking about the UV-ray, heat, and color protection!). It wasn’t until my second or third time using Beauty Protector Protect & Detangle that I began to notice a significant difference in my hair. My hair was shinier, silkier, and softer. I also noticed that my hair had less frizz, and my ends were more moisturized.
I usually go pretty heavy on the application (as I mentioned earlier), and like to really coat my hair with this stuff. Despite going overboard occasionally, the Beauty Protector Protect & Detangle spray never weighs down my hair due to its lightweight formula.
Protect & Detangle vs Protect & Oil
What’s interesting is that I find the Beauty Protector Protect & Oil hair oil offers the same detangling results, as well as the added shine and softness. So if you already own the oil, there’s really no need to use both products. However, if you’re on the fence about which one to get, I’d go for the Protect & Detangle over the Protect & Oil – it has a faster application and you don’t need to get your hands all oily.
Overall, with its long list of benefits, the Beauty Protector Protect & Detangle has quickly become a new staple in my haircare routine, and it’s super easy to apply in its spray form. I ended up finishing off my Birchbox sample within just a few short weeks (which qualifies it as a winner in my book!), and am already planning to pick up the full size version!
The Beauty Protector Protect & Detangle spray is available exclusively on Birchbox.com and retails for around $22. It’s currently not sold at Sephora, Ulta, or Amazon (though occasionally you may find individual sellers selling this on Amazon).
