The Detox Box November 2018 Unboxing (+ a New Beauty Tool Favorite!)

The Detox Box November 2018 Review 102

Thanks to the folks over at The Detox Market, I was able to get an early peek inside The Detox Box for November 2018.  And let me tell you, it packs some amazingly luxurious, high-quality, spa-worthy products (with a total value close to 3x the cost of the box!).

If you’re new to The Detox Box, it’s a monthly clean beauty subscription box curated by The Detox Market (one of my favorite online beauty shops!).  Unlike other subscription boxes that I’ve reviewed here on this blog – including Love Goodly, Petit Vour, Vegan Cuts, and GoodbeingThe Detox Box hones in on one beauty brand per month, and selects roughly 2-3 of the brand’s very best, HG-worthy products that meet The Detox Market’s strict ingredient standards and high expectations for performance.  The products selected can be easily integrated into any beauty routine – they range from facial serums and oils, to shampoos & conditioners, and multi-tasking makeup.

The box costs $55 per month (and as low as $39.95 with a 6-month subscription), while the products inside value at $90+ (the last three boxes ranged in value from $102 to $132, and this one comes in at ~$147!).  It only ships within the US at this time, however I’ve heard that they may be opening it up to Canada this year (though I’m not sure exactly when).

“Each month you’ll receive products that are universal and exceptional—you know, the “holy grails”. Products that have people complimenting your skin, and asking what you’re doing.” – The Detox Market

The Detox Box November 2018 Review 300

The Detox Box November 2018

The Detox Box for November 2018 featured three skincare products from Odacite, a brand I first fell in love after trying out their unique matcha face cleanser.  Created by Valerie Grandury to “marry the best of luxurious French skincare with green California living”, the collection offers a wide range of targeted skin treatments that incorporate “the most potent plant ingredients for real results”.

This month, subscribers will get to try out Odacite’s charcoal mint cleanser and botanic-crystal serum, along with a rose quartz Gua Sha face massage tool (which pairs perfectly with the serum).  Here’s the full rundown…

Odacite Black Mint Cleanser

Travel-size; Value: $14

What it Does:  This fresh, minty gel cleanser gentle foams when mixed with water.  It works to deliver a deep cleanse – eliminating excess oil, impurities, environmental toxins and makeup – without drying out the skin, leaving it mattified yet balanced.

Key ingredients:

  • Activated Charcoal + Rhassoul clay: Helps to draw out dirt and impurities from deep within pores. Rhassoul clay also feeds the skin with complexion-boosting minerals.
  • Peppermint + Tea Tree: Both known for their astringent properties, which helps minimize the appearance of pores. Peppermint also reduces skin fatigue thanks to its high menthol content.
  • Gentle Apple Wash: A creamy foam derived from apple amino acid that helps to remove impurities and reduce shine, while distributing our skin’s natural moisture levels.

Odacite All-Embracing Serum

Full-size; Value: $95 for 1.69 oz

What it Does:  This lightweight, fast-absorbing formula penetrates the skin deep-down for long-lasting hydration. It’s infused with potent plant extracts plus the healing energy of Amethyst, known for its ability to soothe and calm the mind and body.  Formulated for all skin types (oil to dry; mature to sensitive).

Key ingredients:

  • Watermelon Seed Oil – Absorbs quickly, leaving skin moisturized, but never greasy. Feeds skin with Vitamins A, B, E, and minerals to restore a a youthful glow. The oil’s rich concentration of Linoleic Acid also helps to balance sebum production, preventing clogged pores.
  • Hibiscus – Packed with antioxidants and mild natural acids, it gently exfoliates while reducing cellular damage that can cause skin to lose its strength.
  • Colloidal Oatmeal – A skin soothing and calming ingredient that helps alleviate redness and irritation.

This serum is liquid gold – literally!  It feels so rich and hydrating, but also has a lightweight consistency that makes it quick and easy to apply.  The formula’s herbal scent, mixed with a touch of refreshing fruitiness, makes this oil feel even more luxurious and spa-like.  A little goes a long way too (one pump is enough to cover the face + neck) so the bottle is sure to last a while.

Odacite Crystal Contour Gua Sha

Value: $38

What it Does: Gua Sha is an ancient Chinese technique that has been used for centuries to lift and revitalize the skin.  It works through a gentle, stimulating massage that encourages detoxification and boosts circulation.

The Gua Sha facial tool included in this box is made out of rose quartz and hand-carved to fit the contours of your face – from the neck and cheeks, to the brows and forehead – for maximum effectiveness.  It can be used warm (recommended while applying skincare for max absorption), as well as chilled in the fridge and used in the morning to help reduce puffiness.

How to Use:  Start with cleansed skin that’s still slightly damp.  Apply your favorite serum by gently pressing over your face and neck, then follow the Gua Sha facial guide (included inside the box), repeating each stroke 5-10 times.  Practice this ritual regularly – 2-3 times per week is recommended.

Odacite Crystal Contour Gua Sha review, how to 3

Use the shortest/curviest side of the tool under the eye area and along the brows.  Then use the inside (concave) side along the chin, around smile lines, and under the cheekbones.

As a fan of the jade roller, I was curious to try out the Gua Sha tool and see how it compares.  Honestly, I love them both, however I do feel the Gua Sha facial tool outperforms when it comes to lifting the skin since 1) it’s longer in length, which allows you to cover a larger section of the face with each stroke, 2) it’s carved into a face-hugging, curved shape, which further maximizes contact with the skin, and 3) it’s a solid piece of rock, which provides a bit more control compared to a roller.

Paired up with the serum, the Gua Sha facial tool glides effortlessly across the skin and feels very stimulating yet relaxing.  It can get pretty addicting too.  I’ve been pulling mine out 2-3 times a day now – in the evenings as part of my skincare routine, while watching YouTube, and even while writing blog posts! 😛
