Holiday Makeup Must-Haves: e.l.f.’s Stardust Glitter Eyeliners

elf stardust glitter eyeliner review

Just in time for the holidays, e.l.f. Cosmetics brings us a four glittery eyeliners to help us add a little glitz and glam to our evening looks.  Here’s my review, along with some swatches of all four shades and a quick look.

e.l.f. Cosmetics’s new Stardust Glitter Eyeliners are clear gel eyeliners packed superfine glitter.  What’s great about all the shades is that they offer so much versatility.  You can wear them on their own for a sheer wash of colored glitter, or layer two shades together for a multi-colored glitter effect.  They can also be applied over eyeliner (pencil, gel, or liquid) to transform it to a metallic finish, as well as over eyeshadow to add create a shimmery (and sometimes duochrome) effect on the lid or anywhere else you want to highlight.

There are currently four shades available.  Shimmering Gold and Sparkling Silver are pretty straight forward and perfect for adding some classic glam to a basic eye look.  Pink Opal and Sea Foam, on the other hand, offer a slightly more iridescent and ethereal effect.  They’re perfect for parties or whenever you feel like stepping out of the norm.  Here are swatches of all four…

Swatches from bottom to top: Shimmering Gold, Sparkling Silver, Pink Opal, and Sea Foam

As I mentioned above, the e.l.f. Cosmetics Stardust Glitter Eyeliners feature straight up glitter in a clear formula.  Sparkling Silver, Pink Opal, and Sea Foam contains super fine micro-glitter, while Shimmering Gold contains slightly chunkier pieces.  The formulas aren’t super concentrated, so you really have to layer these up if you want to achieve more of a full-coverage, opaque look.  In the swatches above and demo below for example, it took me about 4-5 swipes layered over on another to reach the coverage shown.

If you’re layering over regular eyeliner however, the effect is noticeable about just one swipe.  I tried Sea Foam layered over my navy pencil eyeliner and it looked stunning, and almost other-worldly.  One swipe turned the navy into a deep teal with a duochrome-like effect.

The formula is easy to apply, and even leaves enough time for you to fix any mistakes before it dries down.  Once set, they are practically budge-proof.  Rub them with your fingers and you may pick up a few sparkles, but a majority of the glitter stays put and doesn’t smear.

In the look below (which I wore out just tonight!), I applied Pink Opal on the bottom lash line, and Sea Foam on the top.  I applied it at around 10pm and now at 2:30am, it’s still looking fresh.
