Today, I’m sharing my review of the latest lippie to join my summer lipstick collection – Colourpop’s new Blotted Lip lipstick, in the shade ‘Brain Freeze‘.

Colourpop Blotted Lip Review

First off, let’s take about the texture. Out of all the lipsticks I’ve tried to date, Colourpop’s Blotted Lip lipsticks have the most unique texture I’ve ever come across – it combines the firmness of a wax crayon with the silky-smoothness of silicone. With slight pressure, the formula smooths over the lips and settles instantly to a near-matte finish.  Compared to the average matte lipstick however, the Blotted Lip lipsticks have a ‘cushiony’ softness to them that mimics the look and feel of our natural lips (which also makes them super comfy to wear!).

The formula does allow some flexibility when it comes to their opacity.  You can apply one swipe for sheer coverage, or add 2-3 extra swipes for medium coverage.

Once set, the formula stays put and is kiss-proof and transfer-proof.  Their overall longevity is pretty impressive – on me, they last a good 4-5 hours (and that’s with drinking and eating).  Without eating, they last me even longer.

What I like in particular about the Blotted Lip formula is that they fade very gradually and evenly, so touch-up aren’t really necessary unless you want to increase the coverage.  The formula also stays comfortable and lips stay smooth well past 3-4 hours of wear.

‘Brain Freeze’ is a medium, slightly cooler-toned bubblegum pink.

How Do They Compare to Colourpop’s Other Formulas?

Compared to Colourpop’s Lippie Stix, the Blotted Lips are more matte, sheerer, and also drier in texture.  If you’re looking for full-coverage in a creamy, hydrating formula (but don’t mind re-applying pretty frequently), the Lippie Stix are your best bet.  However, if you prefer a sheerer, more natural-looking lip with longer wear, the Blotted Lips are definitely the way to go.

Compared to Colourpop’s more pigmented liquid lipsticks (Ultra Matte and Ultra Satin) the Blotted Lip lipsticks are a lot easier and quicker to apply (you don’t even need a mirror).  They’re also not as heavy or drying in the long-term, and they fade much more naturally.

And finally, compared to Colourpop’s new Ultra Blotted Lip (which I also picked up and will be reviewing soon!), the Blotted Lip lipsticks have a bit more of a sheen to them, while the Ultra Blotted Lip are completely matte.  The Blotted Lip formula also offer more flexibility when it comes to coverage (you can go from sheer to medium, whereas the Ultra Blotted Lip lipsticks provide medium coverage pretty much right off the bat).  Both are long-wearing, transfer-proof, and have a silky-smooth, cushiony texture.

Wrap-Up

Overall, I’m loving Colourpop’s new Blotted Lip lipsticks – the formula is my absolute favorite from Colourpop so far. If you’re like me and prefer minimal, natural, no-fuss makeup looks, I would definitely recommend picking up a few of these!  (Plus at $5 each, you can’t beat it!)
